High Transparency Silica Matting Agent for Wood Coatings | SEMITECH
Advanced Silica Matting Agent for Wood Coating
Formulating high-end wood coatings requires a delicate balance between gloss reduction and optical clarity. At SEMITECH, we engineer the ultimate silica flatting agent specifically designed to preserve the natural beauty of wood grains without masking the substrate.

Whether you are formulating waterborne polyurethane, NC, or acid-curing systems, our synthetic amorphous silica provides precise gloss control compliant with the ASTM D523 standard for specular gloss.
Zero Haze on Dark Substrates
The biggest challenge in the industry is the blueish haze on dark woods. Our high transparency silica matting agent for wood coatings perfectly matches the refractive index of your resin, serving as a zero haze matting agent for dark walnut wood finish.
Premium Soft-Touch Feel
By utilizing a specialized wax treated silica matting agent, we ensure an ultra-smooth surface layout. This soft-touch silica for wood finish elevates the tactile perception of luxury furniture.
Excellent Anti-Settling
Unlike standard untreated silica matting agents that form hard cakes, our specialized wax surface treatment ensures easy redispersion, extending the shelf-life of your wood paint.
Eco-Friendly & Low VOC
Ideal for modern eco-friendly formulations. Our product serves as the optimal paint gloss reduction agent for low VOC and waterborne systems, ensuring strict environmental compliance.
Recommended Solution for Wood Coatings
We highly recommend GMATT 240 for your high-end wood formulations to achieve crystal-clear matte finishes.
1. How to achieve a zero haze finish on dark walnut wood?
To eliminate the blueish or white haze, you must use a high transparency silica matting agent for wood coatings with a tightly controlled particle size distribution, like our GMATT 240. It minimizes unwanted light scattering while perfectly reducing gloss.
2. How to reduce gloss in waterborne polyurethane coatings?
Waterborne PU systems are sensitive to sheer. Adding an easily dispersible silica flatting agent during the let-down phase under low-shear stirring (600-800 RPM) effectively reduces gloss without causing micro-foam or viscosity spikes.
3. Should I choose a wax treated or untreated silica matting agent?
A wax treated silica matting agent is highly recommended for wood coatings because the wax prevents hard settling during storage and provides a premium "soft-touch" feel. An untreated silica matting agent is better suited for coil coatings or leather where wax might interfere with inter-coat adhesion.
4. Silica matting agent vs wax dispersion: Which is better?
While wax dispersions offer surface slip, they have low matting efficiency. A pure silica matting agent provides superior, dead-matte optical control at much lower dosages. For the best of both worlds, formulators use our wax-treated silica.
5. Is your matting agent suitable for low VOC wood paints?
Yes. Our synthetic amorphous silica is 100% inert, non-toxic, and contains zero VOCs, making it an ideal eco-friendly silica matting agent for green building materials and water-based furniture finishes.
